Last day. Last breakfast. Eggs Benedict. Notice even the presentation of the grapefruit
Mile 179, Lava falls rapid - the last big one. (the canyon's biggest -- Lava Falls pours over an infamous boat-eating ledge-hole, dropping 13 feet and creating a maelstrom of ten-foot waves. ) No one had been thrown out during our trip and we sure hoped it would not happen on the last day! We put the cameras away during all the rapids so we have no pictures of those. So I opted for a very nice shot approaching the rapids.
All of a sudden we were at the end. Mile 187, Whitmore helipad. We said goodbye to the guides - they were so great! We helicoptered out, which was a very neat ride in its own right.
The helicopter took us to Bar 10 ranch on the rim near mile 187 for a shower (lukewarm but still felt great) and lunch. We realized it was the first time we'd been indoors in a week. We exchanged email addresses with everyone (we had a great group of people on the boats!) and - the trip was over. Back to real life, although Lucky says that being there IS the real life. I don't think I could do it all the time but I'm really glad it was part of my real life!
